ANA

BEDOLLA

Ana Gloria Bedolla was born in La Excusa Michoacán, Mexico. As a child, she migrated with her parents to California’s Central Valley. She now lives in the Bay Area, where she works as an artist and educator. Ana is also the and Co-Founder of Casa-Huate Artist Residency and Co-Director of Aguas Migrantes Artist Residency in La Loma, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Ana is a bookbinding and mixed media artist whose work is deeply rooted in her Purépecha heritage. Each year, she returns to her community to learn from and commune with the elders, continuing a living dialogue across generations. In Purépecha tradition, dreams are honored as sacred sources of guidance and knowledge—a belief that Ana carries into her own life and art. A vivid dreamer herself, she embraces this ancestral connection as both compass and inspiration, weaving the wisdom of here dreams into the fabric of her artistic practice.

As a child, time spent at her grandmother’s home awakened a lifelong fascination with insects and their intricate roles within the ecosystem.

The hum of cicadas, and the delicate flight of bees, butterflies, and dragonflies left an imprint on her senses, teaching her to listen to the language of nature. These early experiences, combined with the surreal landscapes of her dreams, continue to shape and guide Ana’s creative expression.

Through her work, Ana seeks to merge the ethereal, dreamlike realm with the tangible beauty of the natural world, drawing from the concept of biophilia—our innate love for and connection to nature.

After receiving her BFA in Sculpture from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA, Ana began merging her passion for bookbinding with her interest in kinetic sculpture, leading to the creation of her distinctive “Kinetic Book Sculptures.

Her work has been exhibited both locally and internationally, including at SOMArts, Intersection for the Arts, EvolvedSF, Root Division, independent galleries in Guanajuato City, Gto., Mexico, and most recently at Wildflower Residency in Tottori, Japan.
